The roads are becoming more dangerous everyday with distracted driving. The good news is, there’s something you can do about it.

Whether you drive an older car or a brand new one, there is enough technology out there to help you drive more safely. And many of the devices will add to the “cool” factor of your driving experience as well. Here a just a few of the available technological features and add-ons you can have in your vehicle today.

Bluetooth Connectivity

Distracted driving is one of the fastest growing reasons for traffic incidents, but there is technology to help you fight it. The ability to connect your cell phone to the speaker system in your car through Bluetooth connectivity is a great way to start.

By eliminating the need to hold the phone in your hands, Bluetooth can help reduce distracted driving by allowing you to have both hands on the steering wheel and your eyes focused on the road. Bluetooth also allows you to play music and listen to radio apps directly from your phone. This means that there’s no more annoying static as channels fade when you’re driving.

Many new vehicles, like the Jeep Cherokee, come with Bluetooth standard. If you do not have it, there are aftermarket devices that work well.

Driver Assistance Devices

Driver assistance devices are a relatively new technology that helps with a variety of driving problems. They can range from safety assistance — like automatic lights and braking — to cool features like adaptive cruise control.

One of the coolest devices is the Mobileye C2-270. It scans the area around your car and alerts you to dangers like pedestrians, cars in your blind spot and whenever you are veering out of your lane. These features can help you out when you are driving through a crowded city, or if you are driving long distances and begin to fatigue. The best thing is that it’s easy to install and works with nearly all makes and models of car and truck.

Dash Cams

Dashboard cameras are a great way to protect oneself in the case of an accident. While they are not proactive at preventing accidents, like driver assistance devices, they can record the incident for you so you can present evidence in the future.

Many times, there is confusion about who’s at fault after an accident. Sometimes, even the authorities have trouble determining fault. Having a recording of the accident is a great way to get yourself off the hook if someone else caused it. This is also a great way to prevent fraud if someone should purposely cause you to wreck into them.

Also, for fun, you can record your road trips. If you are the creative type, you can even use the footage to incorporate into a larger home video of your vacation.

With all of the readily-available technology out there, there’s really no reason why you should be driving around without them.
