Microsoft HoloLens 2 Augmented Reality Headset Unveiled!

Microsoft HoloLens 2

The first HoloLens was bulky and not really comfortable to use, this one is a big improvement over that. The Microsoft HoloLens 2 was released at the Mobile World Congress 2019. This release was a big improvement over its predecessor. But can it make it to mainstream? Is it really that good or merely an improvement? That’s what we are here to find out.

Initial Impressions on the Microsoft HoloLens 2:

Top of the bat, the Microsoft HoloLens 2 is much less bulky and waa…y lighter than its predecessor. That in itself is a big improvement. Why I say so is that for wearers of glasses, it can be a little tedious to get it on and also to wear it.

This time the Microsoft HoloLens 2 is easier to slip on even if you do wear glasses. It comes with a visor that is adjustable and also flips up when you’re not in augmented reality mode.

The first time you wear it, the Microsoft HoloLens 2 will calibrate your eye movement while asking you to look at a floating shape. You will have to do this without moving your head of course.

Once you’re all setup you’ll immediately notice that the field of view on this gadget is a vast improvement over the HoloLens 1. In fact the field of view is nearly double of its predecessor. Since you have a larger field of view you just need to look at things with your eyes without having to turn your head or take a step back.

The larger field of view is one of the main criteria that’s going to help Microsoft get this thing to mainstream. It gives the illusion that whatever is in front of you is really there.

Use the Microsoft HoloLens in Construction and Engineering:

Who says the HoloLens 2 is only for entertainment? One of the areas that Microsoft has boasted the HoloLens 2 can be put to use in is in Engineering and Construction. One of the examples set by Microsoft to illustrate their point is, where the Microsoft HoloLens 2 guides a person in constructing something by placing the instructions in the their field of view.

The Microsoft HoloLens 2 can be used in the entire process of making a building right from the 3D design stage to the laying out of pipes and valves to the construction of the entire building.

The Microsoft HoloLens 2 also comes with SYNCHRO XR software which allows you to see architecture plans in real time and also to interact with objects as well as to manipulate them as well.

Besides being able to move around objects, the HoloLens 2 also allows you to move time. This becomes handy when you want to see how the building process would look like at certain points in time.

Using the Microsoft HoloLens 2 in the building process is likely going to save a lot of time and help speed things along. Incidents can be foreseen well in advance and taken care of on a timely basis.
